This wood sculpture is a piece of art, hand carved by me, Josh Carte, here in Ohio. This wood carving is a perfect 5th Anniversary Wood Gift for her that hangs on the wall. It is a unique and one of a kind sculpture carved in Maple that fits perfectly into the log home decor theme.

I am in charge of everything that goes on in this shop....The carving, packaging, listing, shipping, communication...It's all me. I don't have any elves, helpers or workers. So, when you buy from me, you are supporting me and my family. We really appreciate you!
I used a whole lot of different tools to make this carving. It began with a sketch and ended with lots of sand paper and urethane. In between were jig saws, hand tools and router bits. This type of carving is called, "pierced relief". It is a very time consuming style of carving but I love every minute of it! This is truly a one of a kind carving.
There are some live edges and bark inclusions to this carving. I really love this type of wood. These burls grow on Sugar Maples and are just amazing to me. Many sprouts are sent to one area where a burl is formed and the resulting wood is very hard with interlocking grain. The dark, lace of this piece is very unique.
I carve everyday for a living. It's my favorite thing in the world to do :) The two things that I love most are my family and carving wood. So, it only makes sense that I carve wood to support my family :) I have been at it for almost 9 years and I still love it just as much as I did when I began!
I live in the woods, so I'm very inspired by what's around me- trees, animals and sometimes people :)

I really enjoy creating themed walking sticks such as Odin, Thor, Baron Samedi or many, many other possibilities. If you'd like a stick with bears, owls, or whatever else you might have in mind, just shoot me a message and we can discuss it.

Care instructions
My carvings can be cleaned using many different methods. A feather duster works nicely. Compressed air (duster or air compressor) also works well. If on a porch or indoors, my carvings will never need a new coat of sealer. Chainsaw carvings that are outdoors will need a fresh coat of sealer each year.
