This is a Box Elder Burl heart wood carving. This personalized wood sculpture makes a perfect 5th anniversary wood gift for her. This wall heart was made here in Ohio, by me, Josh Carte. It is a wonderful piece of wall decor and makes a perfect wood gift.
I will be glad to engrave something in the back of this wall heart free of charge. Something like, "I love you", "JC+TC", or maybe a quote that you love, etc... something fairly short but very meaningful :) Please let me know what you'd like engraved, AS A NOTE, when you purchase this carving.

This wood is Box Elder Burl. It is a very beautiful and unique wood.I just love the character to this piece. The holes running throughout this piece of wood are from ants that used to live in this wood. When this large, Box Elder tree was standing-dead, ants moved in and began eating the wood. After I harvested the tree, I let the wood cure for a couple of years, and I treated the wood for any bugs. There are no longer ants in this piece of wood, but what they left behind is amazing!
This heart is very thick and makes quite a statement :)
Burls are formed on trees due to some sort of stress. The result is that the tree sends a bunch of sprouts to one area forming a burl. Burls are rare and very unique. They have beautiful, interlocking grain. There is some natural edge to this piece as well as a little bit of spalted wood. The red color to parts of this heart is a signature of Box Elder.
Everything in my shop is made by hand, by me, Josh.
I made this carving using many different tools. I began with a chainsaw to get my shape. Then, I used some power shaping tools on an angle grinder to round over the edges. I sanded this carving very finely to showcase the beauty of this wood. I finished it with several coats of polyurethane.
This carving comes ready to hang! I sign and date the back of all of my work.
I just love carving and working with wonderful wood!

Care instructions
My carvings can be cleaned using many different methods. A feather duster works nicely. Compressed air (duster or air compressor) also works well. If on a porch or indoors, my carvings will never need a new coat of sealer. Chainsaw carvings that are outdoors will need a fresh coat of sealer each year.
