“Red Dragon”
I carved this dragon in a double Pine knot. Pine knots are sort of like the forest’s driftwood. Any place the branch of a Pine meets the base of the tree, a knot is formed. When the tree eventually dies and decays back into the earth, all that remain are the pitch-filled, resilient knots. It is said that spirits inhabit the knots which allow them to remain in tact for so long. My job is to release the spirits.
I used various hand tools and grinders to create this piece. It is finished with thinned oils.
This is a wall-hanging carving. I include a certificate with all of my Wood Spirits. The back is notched for easy hanging, and includes the date and my signature.

Care instructions
My carvings can be cleaned using many different methods. A feather duster works nicely. Compressed air (duster or air compressor) also works well. If on a porch or indoors, my carvings will never need a new coat of sealer. Chainsaw carvings that are outdoors will need a fresh coat of sealer each year.
